Free vs Pro

Free is search with citations. Pro adds the top AI models, deeper research, expanded access to Perplexity Computer, 4,000 extra credits, and the ability to create documents and apps. If you research for work, Pro pays for itself fast.

What Perplexity pricing covers in 2026

Perplexity started as a cited-answer search engine, and its pricing now reflects a bigger product: Perplexity Computer, which builds documents, apps and tools, running on a credit system on top of the search plans. That means two things are being priced at once: search and research access, and Computer usage measured in credits. Pro and Max differ mostly in how much Computer usage and research depth you get.

What each plan includes

Pro is $17 per month when billed annually. Perplexity lists expanded Computer access, 4,000 bonus credits, deep research, access to top AI models with the ability to select between them, the ability to create polished documents and apps, and more usage limits and memory. A limited-time offer of $40 in free Computer credits was shown alongside it when we checked.

Max is $167 per month when billed annually. It includes everything in Pro plus maximum Computer usage, 35,000 bonus credits, 10,000 monthly credits, expert-level research, frontier AI models, the highest usage limits and memory, and priority access to new features. A limited-time $450 in free Computer credits was shown with it. The prices shown are annual-billing rates; Perplexity's page does not show a monthly-billing price for the individual plans, so confirm at checkout if you want to pay month to month.

Which models you get

Perplexity says it orchestrates the best model for each task. The models listed on its Pro page when we checked were Sonar 2 (its in-house model), GPT-5.6 Terra, Gemini 3.7 Flash, Claude Sonnet 5, Kimi K3 and GLM 5.3. Kimi K3 and GLM 5.3 are listed as hosted in the US. Model lineups change often, so check the page before relying on a specific model.

Who should pay for Pro, who should pay for Max

Stay on Free if you mostly want quick answers with citations. Pay for Pro if you do research regularly, want to pick the model, or want Computer to draft documents and small apps. Pay for Max only if you run Computer heavily enough to burn through Pro's credits: the jump from $17 to $167 is nearly tenfold, and the difference is mostly credits, research depth and priority access. A sensible test is to use Pro for a month and look at whether credits, not features, are what stops you.

Perplexity vs other AI subscriptions

Perplexity's strength is sourced research. If your main need is a general assistant with chat, voice and image tools, compare our ChatGPT pricing guide. If you want to build software with AI, Perplexity Computer is not a replacement for a coding tool; see Cursor pricing, Codex pricing or Devin pricing. For teams, Enterprise Pro is $34 per seat per month billed annually ($40 monthly), and Enterprise Max is $271 per seat annually ($325 monthly).

When Max is worth $167

Max is for people who run Perplexity Computer heavily. It adds 10,000 monthly credits and 35,000 extra credits, plus the highest usage limits and memory, model preference and Model Council. If you rarely run out of Pro, skip it.

Enterprise is priced per seat

Perplexity says seats can be reassigned between people without buying a new one. Discounts may apply for teams of 250 or more, schools, nonprofits and government. If you are also weighing chat assistants, see our ChatGPT pricing guide.
