1. What's Airtable?

First, what's Airtable? It's a mix between a spreadsheet and a database.

🔢 Spreadsheets are great for making calculations.

🔀 Databases are best for organizing LOTS of information.

Airtable let's you do both 💯

2.Terminology

Now, some terminology: Bases, Tables, and Views.

A base contains ALL the data for 1 project.

Tables are inside a base, & are like kind of like a spreadsheet.

Each table can be linked to each other 🔗

A view is a way to filter and view data inside a table.

3. Table Basics

Now we need to understand WHAT makes up a table. Tables are made up of rows and columns. Each ROW in the table is a record of info (the horizontal part of a tablet).

Each COLUMN is a data-type (text, date) of the record.

Data types help to keep your data organized 🗄️

4. Linking Tables

Let's talk about linking tables  🔗 This is what makes Airtable really powerful 💪

Imagine we have two tables: basketball players and teams. On our "players" table, we can LINK TO the "teams" table.

This allows you to pull in data about the team for the player.

5. Why link tables?

You might be thinking... why is linking necessary? Linking turns Airtable from a spreadsheet into a database! With "lookup" fields, if you change the team name on the "teams" table, Airtable will also update the team name on the "players" table, like magic 🪄

6. Views

Okay, let's talk more about views 🥽 Views let you look at a subset of a table without deleting any of the raw data. This is super helpful when working with huge tables that have TONS of columns of data.

7. Types of views

Not only can you filter data in views, you can view and manipulate data in lots of different ways:

- Kanban (like a  board)

- Calendar

- Gallery (with images)

\- Timeline/Gantt (great for project management)

8. Forms

What if you want to have people OUTSIDE your organization enter data on your Airtable? That's where forms come in. Others can submit a form and that data will get automatically added to your table.

8. Automation

Airtable isn't just about data. It's also about automation ⚡

Airtable has automations (kind of like Zapier) right into the product. For example, you can send an email automatically when a record meets certain criteria. Now you're building apps inside Airtable 🤯

9. Collaboration

With Airtable, you can tag others using the "@" symbol, which sends an alert to others on your team. You can also create permissions (editing permissions, for example), that helps to ensure only those that need to can edit the data.

10. Automation

Want to extend Airtable's power even more? You can use it as the backend for tools like Webflow and Softr, so you can build fully functioning web apps using your Airtable data.

That's it! You're on your way to building powerful internal applications using .
