What changed
GPT-6 Sol is OpenAI's mid-tier GPT-6 model for coding and professional work, released alongside the smaller GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI's model page lists a 1,050,000 token context window (922,000 max input), 128,000 max output tokens, text and image input with text output, an April 20, 2026 knowledge cutoff, and reasoning effort settings from none to max.
Access and availability
Available in the OpenAI API as gpt-6-sol, with Batch and Flex at 50% of standard price and a Fast mode at 2x. It is rolling out in ChatGPT Work and Codex, but not yet in ChatGPT Chat.
Official access documentationPricing
$2 per million input tokens, $0.20 per million cached input tokens and $10 per million output tokens (higher rates above 272K input tokens)
Official pricingWhat you can build
Evaluate a coding or research workflow on your own tasks, comparing quality and total cost with the model you currently use.
Limitations
Output is text only. Prompts over 272K input tokens are billed at a higher rate, and OpenAI's model page notes GPT-6.1 Sol has since superseded it as the newest Sol model.
