What changed

GPT-6 Astra (gpt-6-astra) is OpenAI's model for demanding reasoning and computer-based work. OpenAI's model docs list a 1,050,000-token context window (922,000 max input), up to 128,000 output tokens, text and image input with text output, an April 30, 2026 knowledge cutoff, and reasoning effort settings from low to max. API pricing is $10 per million input tokens, 100 times the rate OpenAI lists for GPT-6 Luna.

Access and availability

Available in the OpenAI API as gpt-6-astra on the Chat Completions, Responses and Batch endpoints, with rate limits set by usage tier. OpenAI's pages do not state ChatGPT and Codex availability by plan.

What you can build

Evaluate a difficult multi-step task against explicit acceptance criteria before changing your default model.

Limitations

Not supported on Realtime, Assistants, fine-tuning or audio endpoints, and output is text only. It is priced well above other GPT-6 models.
