What changed

Craft is Canva's first in-house image generation foundation model, built for design work rather than general photo generation. It uses two stages: a planning model interprets the prompt and writes a composition plan, then a rendering model turns that plan into an image at up to 2K resolution across more than 30 aspect ratios. Canva reports that Craft debuted fourth overall on DesignArena and ranked first in its People and Portraits and Landscapes and Nature categories.

Access and availability

Craft is available inside the Canva editor and, according to Canva's announcement, to developers through Canva's public API. Reports also mention access through Canva's MCP server; check Canva's developer documentation for the exact endpoint and model identifier.

What you can build

Try the same poster or product-graphic prompt in Craft and your current image model, then compare text placement, composition, and how easily you can revise one element.

Limitations

Output tops out at 2K resolution. Canva has not published a per-image API price, rate limits or regional rollout details, and the DesignArena rankings are company-cited rather than independently verified.
